The Music production sessions groups shall not exceed 14 producers, and need a minimum of 10 participants to run. Should the sessions have to be postponed or cancelled, you will receive a full refund 2 weeks prior to the start of the course. 

The Course

On Tuesday evenings, Doka transforms into a music production studio where you can get hands-on experience, begin learning, or improve on your electronic music production skills with Ableton Live and hardware instruments.

The sessions include 1-on-1 coaching moments with Volkshotel Broedplaats residents such as : Sandrien, Tom Ruijg (Tracey), Mayo, Lauhaus, and more.

Listen to your own tracks on the unique sound setup of Doka.

The sessions will gravitate around the exploration of Ableton Live.

The skill level will be adjusted in accordance with the varying interests and experiences of the participants and the programme is refined at the beginning of each 10-week-session 

The sessions are hands-on and geared towards the practice of electronic music production, recording, mixing, with a collective live performance/listening session in Doka during the last session.

Sessions include the following topics

• The clip (audio-midi)
• The session view, the arrangement view
• Envelopes/automation
• Audio/MIDI plugins and instruments.
• Live performance
• Sampling, (making a track with a single sample)
• Synthesis (substractive, FM, etc.)
• Workflow/templates
• Generative music
• Parallel processing/custom instrument and effects creation
• Max for live effects and instruments
• Working with hardware

Need to know

• Sessions revolve around the use of Ableton Live
• Sessions are in English
• Tuesdays from 18:30 till 21:30 (or 19:00-22:00 if more convenient for the group)
• 2x one on one sessions with music producers from Broedplaats VKG 
• Need to bring a laptop with Ableton Live installed to each session**
• A pair of headphones is needed

**Any version of Ableton live will do, but you will get more out of the course with a full version

€500,- (incl VAT) for the complete 10 sessions course.

Julien has a background in teaching music and producing that goes back 17 years. He’s currently teaching at the Conservatorium of Haarlem.
